The Snake River is one of the most well-known rivers in Idaho. It snakes across the southern part of the state from Wyoming to Oregon and Washington. Along those hundreds of miles of river, you’ll find all kinds of incredible sights. These are sights you can experience on foot, by car, and by whitewater river raft.

One of those sights is the deepest river gorge in North America, Hells Canyon. Imagine rafting Hells Canyon Idaho, and taking in the immensity of it all. It’s the kind of sight that will have you in awe. The good news is you can do just that! That’s just one of the many must-see sights you can experience along the Snake River.

The Teton Range

Let’s start in eastern Idaho. The Teton Range is one of the most iconic mountain ranges in the entire country. While they’re located in Wyoming, you can see them from Idaho, including along the Snake River as it meanders through the Swan Valley area. If you want breathtaking views, you’ll find them here. It’s almost like stepping into a painting.

Shoshone Falls

In southern Idaho and just east of Twin Falls, you’ll find Shoshone Falls. During April and May, Shoshone Falls is a spectacular sight. As water pours down the falls, the canyon fills with mist. These falls are some of the biggest in the country, too. They’re even taller than Niagara Falls. It’s a great place to pack a picnic and take it all in for a couple of hours.

Perrine Bridge and the Snake River Canyon

Not far from Shoshone Falls, you’ll find Perrine Bridge, the truss arch bridge that crosses the Snake River canyon and connects Interstate 84 with Twin Falls. Both the bridge and the canyon are a sight to behold. You can explore the visitor’s center and learn about the history of the area. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even BASE jump from the bridge into the canyon.

Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area

Just south of Boise, the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area overlooks the Snake River. This National Conservation Area is protected and is where a significant number of birds of prey (raptors) nest and hunt. You can stop by the visitor’s center and see the raptors up close and personal.

Hells Canyon

Hells Canyon is a sight unlike anything else along the Snake River or in Idaho. The canyon borders Oregon and Washington. It’s the deepest river gorge in North America, and it’s even deeper than the Grand Canyon. One of the best ways to experience Hells Canyon is on a rafting tour. When you go Snake River rafting Idaho surrounds you. You get to see the state and the canyon in an incredibly immersive way. You can also hike Hells Canyon, but when you can see it from the bottom of the gorge, it really puts things into perspective.
